Hi Metroknow :)

You are right.. most people hate ebooks.. same ole same ole (did I just shoot myself in the foot.. perhaps)

But what Dee says is the truth.. if you can find a solution that is different.. that standouts and is quality.. then people will buy it.

I have a few sites I sell or giveaways ebooks on.

My conversions are just 1-3% .. very low but is about average. However the ebooks sell for $25-$47 each.

So..if you are getting 6000 visitors a month. and sell to just 1% or JUST 60 people and you sell the book for $30... you are making $1800 a month from one ebook. That is not too bad for one ebook :)

Compared to Darren Rowe (yeah his conversions are probably higher.. lol).. but don't compare yourself... trust me.. when you compare yourself to the "gurus" it makes things seem much harder than they really are.

Hi Metroknow,

Our readers are just getting too good at anticipating upcoming posts. Whether an ebook is successful or not depends on many things. How unique is it? Let's face it ---there are a lot of informational products out there that are of very poor quality. Does it have a fresh solution to some problem? Does it offer an easier solution or one that saves time?

There is a growing segment of web surfers that is in information overload. They want a solution to what they are looking for...and they don't want to dig for it (no pun intended LOL).

An ebook doesn't cost much to produce. Your time--and some graphics design for the cover is pretty much all that's required. And an ebook isn't necessarily just an ebook...it can become a whole system that works together. Stay tuned more about that later. :)))))

This is interesting to me, because I've grown skeptical of eBooks only out of a) my own experience (I never buy them - not purposely really, they just don't interest me (or I'm just a cheapskate :) )), and b) I've read elsewhere that the ROI is almost always really low unless you get major exposure via the "biggies" like Digg, etc. --

Are you all having success with eBooks? I know Leo at ZenHabits.net has seen a fair amount of success, and I am sure that Darren Rowse has too, but I am skeptical that the "small fish" like me (6000-8000 page views/mo) will reap anything anytime soon.

Thoughts?

Hi James,

I'm going to add my two cents. I'm in the process of trying to encourage two friends to finish their ebooks...I've written a couple myself...and am working on a couple more. What works for me is really breaking the idea down. Don't think of the whole book...the thought overwhelms and paralyzes.

Instead, try to think of it as chapters or sub-chapters. Or as if you were writing a double post for the day. If you can squeeze a half an hour a day to work on the ebook...it grows fast.

Hi James :)

Yes.. totally understand there.

Writing an ebook is much more difficult than writing a blog post there for sure!! It takes time and devotion. Something I am NOT the best at myself, the whole time committment thing is difficult to manage.

I have seen many bloggers struggle with this. Most recently Caroline Middlebrook. She used to post everyday and then decided she wanted to turn her time to her projects.. which most definately makes sense. So she had to cut down on posting. Fortunately for her she had developed a nice following (including me) that understands.. I don't NEED to have to read a blog post EVERY single day.. less is sometimes better and if it allows for us to make head way in another perhaps more profitable direction then it works!

I would think most definately that a fly fishing ebook in a specific location would do very well!! Its ok if it takes a while there... trust me.. I have several projects that are slowly moving along. I know that if I were to pick one and concentrate on just that.. it would be done MUCH faster.. however.. I can't just abandon the other projects.. so.. I feel ya there!

Good luck with it and thanks as always for dropping by.. next time bring some soup!! hehe... ;)

Having your very own product is a great way to build your business. This is something I keep telling myself to do but everything else seems to get in the way, but I guess it comes down to priorities. I just have to be a little more disciplined.

I do have a few hobby sites and have started a Build A Niche Store site for each one.

I have started an ebook on fly fishing in New Brunswick but that's gonna take me a while unless I lock myself in a closet and don't come out until it's done.
