Was there some crazy SEO conference lately or what??

In the past 2 days, Dee and I have had several SEO discussions and teleconferences with people regarding our blog.  I know.. I know.. I still have a bit of work to do here :)

All the help has been really great and tremendously helpful. It is fantastic to see everyone get involved and add their 2 cents, so thank you.

Now I can see some people (like I did once) go… SEO for a blog? Sure… a blog is just like a website and needs to be optimized the same… it’s just the platform that is different.

So, how do you optimize a blog best? Well.. I will be honest.. I am not the best one to ask, probably not even a good one to ask. Its ok, I can live with not being the best SEO person in the world.. I have many other special talents.. ha!

Anyways.. this is more of a question for you… how do you optimize your blog?

On a usual basis we rely on the standard plugins- All in One SEO, Metas, Optimal Title, etc. We also try to use quality keywords in our titles, categories, and posts (best we can).

I have thought that using your own domain name (and NOT hosting on a free platform was best)… or is much better for SEO.. but lately I have been obsessively reading Griz’s blog… he seems to be the “d’man” when it comes to SEO on blogs. (ok.. sorry, I probably offended several other “d’men/women”.. I just have yet to get around to reading them all.)

Anyways, he talks a lot about using blogger for making money from short term blogs. I am really just blatently allowing myself to look like a SEO loser here as I may have to eat my own post I made earlier.. but really.. this perplexes me. Perhaps this is JUST for SEO purposes and nothing more? 

I just really can’t understand how one could have a long term money making blog on anything but wordpress (or other self-hosted blog platform).. yes I am totally biased and love wordpress…Really with all the plugins for wordpress… you could build a television station, a rocket-ship, and a virtual bar inside a wp blog! whoot!

Ok… sorry.. it’s late.

Anyways, I am just trying to wrap my head around it and I am starting to see some light. But I would love to hear…err read, the thoughts here on all this.

FYI… as a way to better understand this, we have also started a quick case study using blogger.. so we will let you know how it turns out..I have only made money from blogs I created with wordpress (I have tried with blogger and the free wordpress before with no luck)

Honestly… I feel kinda naughty though, like I am cheating on wordpress…lol
